Destination Schuylkill River
Philadelphia is a city of neighborhoods and communities. The Destination Schuylkill River initiative is dedicated to connecting the communities of East Falls, Manayunk & Lower Merion to the river through planning, programming and projects. It is part of The Schuylkill Project and a joint effort of the Manayunk Development Corporation and the East Falls Development Corporation, funded by the William Penn Foundation.
The Manayunk Development Corporation commissioned a web site, destinationschuylkillriver.org, which Interpret Green designed and built. The challenge was to create a new online presence promoting advocacy, community, recreation and a shared heritage.
Interpret Green created a website where users can feel involved and easily seek out opportunities to be part of the community. Several interactive elements were integrated, including an events calendar, a blog, photo albums and videos. Users can also access plotted maps, review the work of local artists, learn about the surrounding nature, and plan excursions along the Schuylkill.
There is also information on points of interest, links to related websites, information on how to volunteer, and future plans for the area. To keep production costs down, Interpret Green utilized the Google suite of tools for content management, making website maintenance easier and inexpensive. Interpret Green also helped The Manayunk Development Corporation develop a newsletter campaign to promote awareness.
